You might not have guessed looking at this angelic face,
but our darling little girl definitely has a defiant streak. We tell her to sit down, she stands up. We tell her to pick up her toys, she yells "NO!" We refuse to give her what she wants, she falls to the floor kicking and screaming. Try to pick her up when she doesn't want to be picked up, and you get a "high five" to the nose. We have seen some breakthrough in recent weeks so the hard work of consistent discipline/training has paid off. I've learned I'm not the most patient person in the world, and often had to remind myself this behavior is normal and will soon be over...so I hope!
Sadie moved into a big girl bed a couple months ago. Getting her to stay in bed was tough at first, but once the excitement wore off she knocked out pretty quickly. Then... we took her "mochu" (pacifier) away. She was biting through her pacifiers regularly so we decided the next one she bites through would be her last and we'd tell her she broke it, we can't fix it, end of story. Everyone said the first few days will be rough...try 3 or 4 weeks! She stopped asking for it after two or three days but just couldn't comfort herself to sleep. She'd cry and scream for almost an hour "Mama, where are you?! Mama! Mama!" When I went to console her she'd fight me to go downstairs. There was nothing I could do to console her. She'd eventually pass out from the exhaustion of crying. Nap time went out the window too. This was such a hard time for me emotionally. I'd get a knot in my stomach every day around nap time/bed time because I knew what was ahead. But little by little she realized she wasn't going to get her way and now goes to sleep without a fight and bedtime is actually enjoyable. Naps are hit or miss...mostly miss but I've found other ways to get some "me time". :)
Sadie's favorite things to do right now are read books, watch Dora and play with her babies. Though, she'd trade them in for an outdoor adventure any day. She loves to be wrestled with, thrown around and tickled. She has quite an eclectic taste in music and enjoys everything from the classic "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to "Take a Walk" by Passion Pit. She has an ear for music that impresses me and can often tell what song is playing the second it starts.
