Blaze Is Thweeee!

We had Blaze's birthday at Peekaboo Playroom. It's a favorite indoor play-space of his (and mine since I actually can have a convo with someone over a cup of coffee). He had a blast and got lots of gifts, but as much as he enjoyed opening his presents, he really just loved playing with his friends and couldn't wait to go back and play there with Mikey :)

We love you Blaze! We are so grateful God gave us such an amazing and special boy! Happy birthday buddy!

Slept through the entire party! Why dont you sleep through the night Lovie?!
He's got a sweet, timid side too. I love this kid!

After party costume party with Maddy and Mikey. One thing I love and appreciate about Blaze, he's usually down for anything when it comes to pleasing Sadie... even if it involves dressing up in a pirate dress :)

Preschool Class of 2016!

Today we watched you graduate from preschool. You were so cute in your cap and gown. I made it through the ceremony without crying (a true feat), but I teared up a little as you walked in the auditorium and the picture slideshow of you and your friends flashed before my eyes. You were so proud, and rightfully so.

The giant strides you've made in your education this year will be trumped by your growth in the years to come. It wont be long before you'll be in high school and I'm not sure I'm ready for you to grow up! I want you to be my little girl forever. I love where you're at - you're independent, but still need a good cuddle; conversant, but still get quiet when we read you a story; active, but still in need of an afternoon rest. You're a little boy crazy too, which might make your Papi cry someday.

It's been wonderful to see you embracing your own personality too. You're an interesting mix of me and Papi (a suicide-drink of genetics, let me tell you). But this year you became distinctly Sadie. It seems like the minute you learned to write your own name, you took complete ownership of yourself. You asserted yourself in so many ways: food choices (challenging, but not bad), shoe preferences (the fancier and more sparkly, the better), clothing preferences (no matching required) and even music tastes (you like House music, go figure).

I hope you continue to grow freely, as wild as the flowers in a meadow. I hope you continue to have confidence that pushes you to try new things and give them your best effort. I hope you never learn to fade in the face of fear, or to be shy because you're a girl. I hope you shatter every stereotype known to womankind and become a wonderful example for future girls to follow. I love you without borders or conditions.

We continued the celebration at Chuck E. Cheese, followed by some girl time at our favorite place, the beach :)

Out with the Old

Sadie lost her first loose tooth today! It doesn't seem that long ago that it first made it's debut. We first noticed it was loose last Monday. I thought it would fall out in a day or two because it was pretty wiggly, but the little tooth was quite stubborn. She was wiggling it regularly, and Juan tried pulling it a couple times, but it just wouldn't budge...until today! It was such an exciting moment for our little girl.  :)

High 5 to a 5-Year-Old

I can't stop thinking about the fact that Sadie is 5 years old. And when I think about how awesome she is and how much she's changed (and how much she's changed us) I get a little sappy. To mark this special milestone, I thought I'd post about what she looks like to me at 5 years old.

1. She's gorgeous! She has long brown beautiful hair, brown almond shaped eyes, and a sweet little smile that lights up a room.

2. She's smart and inquisitive. She can count to 100 with a little help, she's learning to read, figuring out which words and phrases rhyme, and pondering on life's mysteries. Her questions often stump me "Why do clouds float?" "How does light work?" "How do you make markers?" #thankfulforGoogle

3. She doesn't mind getting dirty. She likes to dig and roll in dirt and sand. She enjoys digging for worms and will pick them up and show me. "Mom, this is Wormy. He's my friend." I commend her on her find, but secretly I'm so grossed out! She even talks to them!

4. She's resourceful. She makes kites from leaves, old string and sticks. She fills her toothpaste cap with water and rinses her teeth.

5. She's thoughtful. She regularly finds things around the house to wrap and gift us. She makes cards that tell us how much she loves us. And she can spend 2+ hours doing it! She picks me flowers all the time and now that it's getting colder she picks me leaves. :) She will also leave the last "whatever" raspberry, chip, sip of banana milk, to share with Blaze or Papi. But don't touch her chocolate.

6. She knows how to communicate with babies and small baby animals. She gets all high-pitched when she talks to her ten-month-old cousin, Anthony, and the little furballs down the street. It's brilliant.

7. She's cultured...well, as cultured as you can be for a 5-year-old. Being half Mexican half Polish how could she not be? She's gotten quite familiar with some customs, culture and terminology. She can count to ten and knows several words and phrases in Spanish. She knows all the words to "Sto Lat" the polish birthday song, she owns Polish kapcie (slippers), and is starting to learn about different holiday's and how each culture celebrates them. She talks to Rachel on Skype and understands that she lives very far away, farther than Wujek Conrad and Ciocia Evita in Wisconsin because you have to take a long airplane ride to get there. While Rachel was visiting us a few weeks ago, she filled Sadie in on some British terminology like soccer is football and a sidewalk is called pavement.

8. She's a collector of rare finds. Price tags, sticks, dead leaves, flyers found in our door, makeup, ribbon, etc. She covets her treasures.

9. She's moody and has an attitude. Most of the time she's a delight, but sometimes she'll get in a funk where everything is terrible or weird. "Sadie, it's dinner time, turn off the T.V." Her response, "Errr! What a terrible day! I hate dinner!"  Or she'll be on her scooter, run into the playhouse we have in our backyard because she didn't get herself enough room to get by and blame it on the scooter "You weird scooter!"

10. She's silly and playful. She tries to tickle me all day long. She loves jokes. Her favorite is the underwear joke "What are you eating under there?...Under where?...Hahah! I made you say under wear!" She likes playing school, hide and seek, and with her dolls/babies who are always named "Hailah". No one knows why. She just came up with it apparently. Her imagination reached new peaks when she named a toy frog "Throw-up the Frog."

A recent conversation between Sadie and Siri...

Sadie: Whats your name again?
Siri: Siri. Pleased to meet you.
Sadie: Sadie?!
Siri: Sorry Yvonne. I don't see 'Sadie' in your contacts.
Sadie: My mom is Yvonne.
Siri: OK, do you want me to remember that Yvonne Quintero is your mother?
Sadie: Yes! She is a Quintero!
Siri: OK Yvonne, I've added this relationship.
Sadie: I said my mom is Yvonne.
Siri: Ok...but I already know that.
Sadie: Oh, OK.

11. She's helpful. Now that shes older, Sadie helps out with some household chores. She makes her bed, tidies her room, and helps wipe down glass/mirror surfaces. She's the official sock folder and even washes dishes sometimes. Crazy thing is she loves doing it! I hope this servant heart of hers lasts. ;)

12. Her word pronunciation is evolving. She lost her adorable lisp :( She wasn't able to say her "r"s and would say things like "not bwoccoli again!" or "can I go to Gwacie's house?" But she still has a handful of funny pronunciations:
sgusting = disgusting
lemme see daaat = let me see that
peetato = potato
peetato = tomato
beenana = banana
skeeboobydoo = scooby doo
Old McDonalds = McDonalds

So there, in a nutshell, is a portrait of our five-year-old girl. Our beautiful, hilarious, sassy, smart, silly, inquisitive, loving, thoughtful, diva-like girl who makes us proud to be her parents every day.
We love you Sadie with all of our might! You are vibrant and sweet, and along with your brother, our lives' greatest treat! You bring us worlds of joy by simply being here.

3 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 40 pounds
Loving ballet class...I think she is? She gives me a hard time when it's time to get ready for class and sometimes will say she doesn't like it anymore. But the moment the doors open to her classroom she runs in and is excited to show us her new moves after.

Her own unique style...

She's a fantastic big sister. I often hear her protecting Blaze at the park from the older kids without encouraging her to :)

Starting to form some real friendships. This is Eli, our favorite neighbor :)
Sadie and Maddy, they could be sisters
Sadie and Gracie, their connection surprises me. Their friendship must be partly handed down from their parents :)
   Quintero, Fohrman and Tubbs kids
She will always remain Papi's little girl no matter how old she gets.

We celebrated Sadie's 5th birthday at Haunted Trails. She loved playing the arcades, riding the go carts, roller coaster and she even played her first real game of mini golf. Opening presents was obviously the highlight of the day.
She can't get enough of those cheeks!

These pictures make me laugh. She really is so silly.

Blaze. Age 18 Months

Where oh where has my baby gone? I have a full-fledged toddler now. Running and climbing are at the top of his agenda. Sometimes it seems like he has two speeds...fast....and faster! When we are out and about he runs away from me as fast as he can, squealing in delight as I rush to catch him.

I think Blaze is going to have a natural athletic ability. He's already running, jumping and skipping. He likes playing catch and soccer, anything revolving around a ball, and can throw and kick well. And if he isn't doing that he's just screaming at the top of his lungs. We spend LOTS of time outdoors. A few other things about Blaze...

He still doesn't sleep well
Gives the BEST hugs
Loves the play-place at the mall
Already throwing tantrums!
Unspools rolls of toilet paper
Throws everything in the garbage
Knocks things off the table
Empties our bedside drawers
Looks Polish eats Mexican
Copies our behavior
He bites and pulls hair!

Oh Blazey! You bring adventures and wonders daily. We love you like crazy!

Blaze never had an official 1st birthday party. We spent his actual birthday at the zoo with our friends the Fohrman's and had a small cookout celebrating both Juan and Blaze over Memorial Day weekend.

Milestones: crawling at 10 months, walking at 14 months
